Elon Musk eyes blockchain to cut government spending
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is reportedly considering implementing blockchain technology into the government payment system. Quite an ambitious move!
Currently, Trump's advisory group, known as the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), is exploring the possibility of integrating blockchain into the government payment system. In this regard, department officials have already held several meetings with top executives from Web3 companies to learn more about their approaches and technologies. According to Bloomberg analysts, Musk's idea of using blockchain in government operations is in line with his long-term goal of reducing the federal budget by trillions of dollars annually. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO believes that the transparency provided by blockchain will increase control over spending, Bloomberg reports.
Experts also recalled that a similar idea was voiced by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in 2024. He proposed to "put the entire US budget on blockchain" so that "every American can look at every budget item in the entire budget anytime they want 24 hours a day."
Earlier, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order that could set the stage for promoting the development of the crypto industry, which includes increasing transparency in the regulation of digital assets, blockchain technology, and distributed ledger technology (DLT).
