HMA(n) = WMA(2*WMA(n/2) – WMA(n)),sqrt(n))
HMA指标是作为一种有效的价格过滤器发展起来的。它包括大多数移动平均的标准功能；它根据曲线斜率的角度反映价格的支撑/阻止位和入场点。但赫尔移动平均也能让交易者在指标内建颜色的帮助下确认趋势。
当上升趋势开始时HMA的颜色由红变蓝，因为价格随后或进一步上涨，这是买入的机会。移动平均颜色的变化也可看作是入市的信号。
HMA不仅平滑了价格变动，也消除了信号延迟。这一效果是通过计算过程的一些特性实现的。因此，交易者在使用HMA交易时无需担心信号延迟错过入市的情况。
除了在交易中单独使用HMA，这一MetaTrader指标也可作为其他指标或不同分析方法的入场点过滤器。此时，移动平均可用于结束交易。其用法如下：当该指标的颜色改变，交易者应该根据价格趋势结束交易并等待新的入市信号。
