Kao što je slučaj kod mnogih oscilatora, glavni metod korišćenja ovog indikatora jeste otvaranje naloga za kupovinu kada nivo indikatora preraste nivo od 0.15 i otvaranje naloga za prodaju kada indikator opadne ispod nivoa od 0.75.
Glavni paramatar RSI Lagér indikatora u MetaTrader-u jeste faktor gama koji je podrazumevano podešen na 0.7. Važno je imati na umu da kada se koristi vrednost koja je manja od ovog nivoa (na primer, 0.5), indikator češće predlaže otvaranje pozicija sa velikim brojem trgovačkih signala, što za posledicu može imati negativne ishode. Visoke vrednosti faktora indikatora (veće od 0.85) se ne preporučuju s obzirom da precenjenost parametra može dovesti do kašnjenja u radu indikatora.
Karakteristika po kojoj se RSI Lagér indikator veoma izdvaja jeste situacija kada linija indikatora ima najniže ili najviše vrednosti krećući se isključivo horizontalno; u tom slučaju označava se jako usmereno kretanje. Dakle, ukoliko je vrednost indikatora 1 i kreće se horizontalno, na tržištu preovladava jak trend porasta. Kada je vrednost indikatora 0 i kreće se horizontalno, ukoliko krene da se razvija trend opadanja tada treba otvoriti poziciju prodaje.
